The Spy Who Loved Me

Synopsis

Shipping magnate Stromberg dreams of a time when everyone will live beneath the sea. He designs an underwater city, and plans to start a nuclear war that will force land-based civilization into a change of habitat. Using an ingenious tracking device, he captures British and Russian nuclear submarines, hiding them inside his supertanker, "Liparus."

Alarmed by the disappearance of their submarines, Britain and Russia agree to work together. Top agents James Bond and Anya Amasova are assigned the mission of locating the submarines.

The trail leads from Cairo and the ancient tombs of the kings to the island of Sardinia. From his aquatic headquarters, Stromberg orders the death of the two spies. Bond and Anya escape from steel-toothed killer "Jaws" in a remarkable car that travels as well underwater as it does on land.

The agents follow the "Liparus" and are captured. Stromberg reveals that the stolen submarines are programmed to destroy New York and Moscow. In a frantic race against time, Bond frees the submarine crews and breaks into the command center. With only seconds to spare he reprograms the submarines to destroy each other. We are saved, for the time being, from seeking forced refuge beneath the sea.
